4 Things You Need to Know to Make Your First Camping Trip a Success

If you’re the kind of person that loves spending their time in the great outdoors, you probably have at least one favorite activity. Some people go nuts for mountain climbing and hiking, and others are more than happy taking their canoe or kayak out on open water. There are plenty of things you can do outside, but there’s one outdoor activity that combines all of your favorites: camping.

When you’re camping, pretty much every activity you can do outdoors is fair game. There’s no shortage of campgrounds and cabins in the Garden State, so you’ll have plenty of places to enjoy nature. Do you like your usual outdoor activities, but have yet to actually go camping? Here’s everything you need to know for a successful camping trip.

Don’t forget your night-light

If you’re new to camping, you may think that the stars and your roaring campfire are all the light you’ll need at night. Unfortunately, campfire and starlight don’t make the best light at night. If you rely on those things, you’ll end up spending most of your night in the dark. Having a lot of darkness when you’re camping outdoors can be dangerous. Luckily for you LED manufacturers have been making simple to charge or battery powered lights that will be perfect on any camping trip.

Think about taking days off

You’ve found the perfect camp site, but the rate they want you to pay for Friday and Saturday is too expensive. If you want to save money but still camp at your ideal site, consider camping during the weekdays. Like with most travel services, rates will automatically go up during peak travel seasons or on popular days to go out like weekends. If you can spare to take a little time off, think about camping during the week.

Pack the right food

If you’re going camping, you don’t have to live off of granola bars and trail mix. If you can pack food that will keep for at least a few days, it’s good for camping. Hard cheeses can stay edible for a few days when they’re in a backpack. You can even pack fruits and vegetables, most can handle a few refrigeration free days.

Bring the right car

Have you tried to squeeze 3 days’ worth of camping equipment into a tiny 2 door smart car? Any car dealer in NJ has a story about how they ended up selling an SUV to an outdoors lover. If you’re going camping you may encounter rough terrain along with having to carry the right equipment. If you don’t have a bigger or sturdier car, consider renting or borrowing one for your trip
